So Here's the Skinny

What's up with calling recipes "skinny"?

Skinny casseroles

Skinny chocolate chip cookies

Skinny banana double chocolate chip muffins

Skinny chicken soup

Skinny caesar salad

You get the idea.

Why can't we just say "calorie friendly" or "light on fat" or "healthy"?

I think people are getting the wrong idea when everything says "skinny".

The idea is not to be skinny.

It's to be healthy. Strong. Able to do everything we need to do and live a long, productive and happy life.

I Think I've Found My Place

I mentioned previously that I've joined several Facebook yard sale groups, and I've joined ones in our new city we're moving to.

EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY people are posting about where their yard sale is located.

When Caleb and I went up there last weekend to pick up a bed and couch, there were yard sales everywhere I looked.

It was KILLING me not to stop!!!!!!

I have to travel 20-30 minutes to get out of the city and find sales here. And even then I can drive around aimlessly for 15-20 minutes to find another sale once I find one. I've covered miles upon miles and only run into 2-3 sales.

It's a barren wasteland out here, people.

But I do have that thrift store going for me, so I guess I can't complain too much.

The only thing that this new city is missing is a Cafe Rio. Bummer.

Find All the Deals

Two weeks ago we signed a lease for a new apartment in western Maryland. We are so excited!

It is a basement apartment; the owner lives upstairs by himself. For a very affordable flat price we are getting everything included - even cable! WHAT.

I literally will have no bills to pay other than rent.

Oh yeah, except the one to my mom for my phone bill (I am spoiled to be on a family plan......).

Okay and my student loan payment.

You know what? Let's just focus on the positive.

It's a super awesome deal with bigger rooms than we currently have. It's almost exactly 2 miles to the hospital where Caleb will have rotations, and since it's a more rural area we're planning on getting him a nice bike to ride to and fro most days while it's nice out.

I've joined a million yard sale groups on Facebook and found a new (to us but not new at all really) couch set for not much at all and a fabulous, nice new bed last weekend. We drove the 70 miles, rented a truck and moved them into our new apartment last Saturday. It's a good thing they were not very nice couches to begin with because they are even less nice after taking them down our cement stairwell and through a narrow doorway. Our current couch is not going anywhere other than the dump or possibly a refugee's home who needs it desperately. Mice. So gross. And Caleb swore he would never again re-assemble our current bed frame so that must go as well. Hey, we're moving up, if ever so slightly!

Then today I just found a kid's store in a cute little historic area that went out of business and was selling their brand-new Ikea cube shelving for CHEAP. So I scored on that deal today and got 2 new shelves for our new home (you know, the ones I covet).

So I guess the moral of the story is that the internet is truly a blessing and I don't know that we would have any furniture at all without it because I am so cheap frugal.
