Doing the Happy Dance Today

- Taxes just filed and $$$ on the way!

- House has been kept mostly clean all week!

- Dress I purchased for family pictures (in April) at thrift store got altered with a friend's help yesterday!

- I found and purchased 2 other cute dresses that fit in that same thrift store visit!

- Claire fell asleep snuggling me on my lap in the warmth of the sun shining through the window!

- We've had the heat at or above 60 all week and it's not costing us much (since it's warmer outside)!

- I just bought a new lens for my camera for our Disney trip in 2 weeks!

- We're going to Disney World in two weeks!

- 2 WEEKS!

- I found an adorable Easter dress for Claire for a great price on eBay and got it!

- I haven't seen a mouse in weeks! The pest control guy might have actually gotten them all!

- I bought myself a pretty orchid last week and have thus far remembered to water it, which is somewhat of a record for me so far!

I tell you what, people, things are looking up right now.

Oh Claire Oh Claire

Claire has been having a lot of fun lately (I think).

She has a wide variety of toys at home to play with (spoiled), and is finally starting to show interest in more of them.

She cut a new tooth last week, bringing her total to 11.

Since I posted last, she's learned to say Elmo, toes, poop (great....) and turtle.

We're gearing up to visit Disney World in a couple weeks. I figure the best prep I can do is have Claire watch Winnie the Pooh over and over and over in hopes that she *might* recognize even one character when we go. I'm kidding, we're not doing that. But I hope she does have fun there, even though I fully realize she will have zero memory of going there.

New Words

Claire's learned a lot of words recently. I realize I should probably write these down in a journal or baby book, but better to get them down somewhere rather than nowhere.

Two days ago, right in tandem with a new tooth, she picked up "bounce" and "Elmo". Not to be used together, I think.

Right now, off the top of my head, the words she currently uses or can use:

Yes     No     Dog     Cat     Keys     Please     Cheese     Teeth     Thank You     No Way     Eek     Sauce     Apple     Happy     Yeah     Cookie     Woof     Mom     Dad     Baby     Bath      Rosie       Socks     Shoes     Nose     Eyes     What's That

Anyway that's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm totally against baby bragging, but I'm feeling pretty darn proud of this little girl when it comes to her speech and what she picks up on.

End of brag.

Want to Hear Something Disgusting?

I just got our utility bill for the last bill cycle.

We have the "smart meter", where you can see throughout the month what your bill will be projected to be based on your average daily consumption.

Remembering our bills last winter, we'd been keeping the thermostat at 64 during the day and 60 at night. We felt that was a reasonable choice.

One week into the last bill cycle, I checked the projected monthly total...........................

So Caleb put his foot down, had a panic attack, ran in circles, etc, before deciding that we must keep the house at 55 degrees at all times. The numbers left me little choice in the matter.

It's certainly helped me sleep better at night, since I have to snuggle down under my layers of covers and sweats.

The house is very drafty, too, even with the plastic we've put over most of the windows. So, even though the thermostat is at 55, when you're at the computer next to the window, it's a lot colder than that. Also, keep in mind that the heating vents are in the ceiling, with a vacant, unrenovated cellar-type first floor beneath us. So, it's very painful to walk around without shoes on. Luckily, Claire enjoys wearing shoes.

I know, boo-hoo, pity party over here.

I'm freezing. I'm freezing to the point that getting in the shower is painful for the first 3 minutes.

Like I said at the beginning here, I just got the utility bill.

After all that "work", freezing our buns off, our utility bill is...........................

I have more things to be picky about when looking for our next rental than I ever knew before living in this city.

What I've Learned

We're getting ready to leave this Baltimore adventure for another adventure in Maryland, 70 miles away. There are still 3 months until we move, but I had these reflections come to me today:

Living in this city and belonging to this ward has taught me

To crochet

To appreciate and better understand liberal views (I didn't say become convinced)

To bake and cook better

To be a leader in new ways

I can be a crazy driver when needed

When left without a job I become wildly addicted to Netflix/music/anything on as background noise

There will never be enough time in the day, or in the week, or in the month or the year, to do everything I want

I was born into an incredibly awesome situation

I am a mice pansy

To take better care of myself, and to take time for myself when needed (sort of)

Diet Coke is a beautiful thing and so is Cafe Rio

Wait that last one was already a given.

The End

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

I woke up in the middle of the night and heard 2 people breathing deeply.

Scared for my life, I didn't dare move my head to figure out who/where the intruder was in my room.

It only took me a minute or so to figure out I couldn't move my arm, looked to the other side, and there was a baby Claire sleeping on me!

Whoops. Gotta remember to put her back in bed when she wakes up in the night....
