Beating

The last 2 weeks have given me a beating from the dentist.

This morning I had 2 more cavities filled; I was mostly numb for the first (ouch).

My lip, however, was so numb that whilst eating an hr later I bit through my lip.

Praying that Carmex and mouthwash clean it out and get rid of the sore before I get married in 10 (!) days.

Kiki and the Awful, Unreal, Rotten, Really Bad Day

Yeah.

My day actually started out really well.  I got up at 6 this morning to go pick up Caleb at work at 7.  I got to hang out with him until he went to sleep around 8.

My dentist appointment was at 10.  Last year I had to get some cavities filled, and the numbing did not work as well as planned.  I decided to tough it out, but felt like I was going to pass out near the end when he got the high-speed drill and called it quits.  I survived, but have dreaded going back.  Unfortunately for me, even though I floss, brush, and use a fluoride mouth rinse 2 times a day, I still managed to get 6 (yeah, six) cavities in the last 6 months.  Only 4 will be filled due to insurance policies.  So I went to the dentist this morning to get the first 2 of them filled.  I literally almost started crying when he put the drill in my mouth.

Luckily the numbing actually worked this time and I got anxious for nothing.  Two cavities filled, and I get to go back again next week.  The dentist tore the upper front part of my lip while it was numb.  Yay.

I went to work today, and had to close (off at 11 PM).  One of my coworkers is having her last shift tomorrow and so all my coworkers decided to throw her a surprise party/dinner at a local restaurant.  It was oddly enough planned in such a way that I was the only one who had to miss it due to work.  I also was asked to chip in money for a gift that I will never even see be given to her, or see at all.  I had a few cashiers be rude to me, what's new.  I was also apprehensive about going in to work, since yesterday I was pulled in by a manager and told that I needed to stop doing something that "looked" fishy, when in fact I have never stolen a cent in my life, much less from my employer.  So I know that some people in my workplace are making things up about me, and I can't do anything about it, nor will anyone give me a chance to show that I have done nothing wrong.  And I don't get to know who those people are, what with the "open door" policy saying that anyone can tell a manager anything without repercussion.  Unfortunately it doesn't help when it's a false statement.

I was working tonight with someone who doesn't typically supervise, so I had to make sure she was doing things right/not leave her alone.  She does really well though, so I didn't have to be too worried.  The store got incredibly busy around 9 PM and I had to open up every available register to get the lines down.  I also had someone complain to me that our bathrooms are always closed whenever he needs to use them (I explained that unfortunately it was just a sad coincidence for him that they were always closed for cleaning when he needed them, but that we actually don't keep them closed and clean them 24 hours a day).  While this was going on a customer came and told me she had found spilled soap on the ground.  I ran and grabbed paper towels and had her point it out to me.  I found out she had spilled it, and while I was on my knees trying to contain it with the paper towels, another customer went right through it and slipped and fell.  She had had back surgery somewhat recently too and was near tears.  I made sure she was all right, and called a manager up so she could fill out an incident report, because I wanted to make sure she was okay and not hurt at all.  While they came up I continued to clean up the soap and got a maintenance worker to help me and mop it up once all the excess was soaked up.  I got it cleaned up while trying to keep angry customers away from the spill (they were angry that they had to walk 2 feet around it) and made sure cashiers got home and lines got down, and at this time I should have been almost halfway done with my closing duties, which had not even been started.

A manager came up, and grabbed another manager, and then after they helped her they proceeded to chew me out for improperly handling the situation.  I was told I should have called a customer emergency over the radios and not done this or this and done this and this.  After explaining I had misunderstood what the term emergency meant (momma always said if you ain't dead or bleeding, it ain't a emergency), since the customer stood up on her own and told me she was really all right, I apologized, said I was sorry and let them finish.  I went into the back room with the switch-out bags and tried not to cry, as I had been chastised in front of customers, cashiers, managers, and others.  I gathered myself and went back outside to make sure everything was still running smoothly and start the closing job of trading out all the money.  While making sure it all got taken care of, another manager came over and started chewing me out again, saying I shouldn't have cleaned up the spill afterward, that this was going to cost our store $10,000 and because of me they wouldn't have any evidence.  She also told me how if I had said it was an emergency she would have come to me more quickly (I thought she should have enough respect that if I say I need her right away, she should maybe believe me).  After explaining the same thing, and saying I was sorry, she just kept going on and on and telling me with a disappointed voice how wrong I was.

Did I mention that I, with my supervisor, found a cart pusher sitting in his car relaxing while on the clock?  Not only does he still have a job, but he was not even formally disciplined (meaning in writing) for it.

I went back again in the back room and tried not to cry.  Then my coworker and I did our rounds and gathered all the money, booking it like mad women, accomplishing in 55 minutes what normally takes an hour and a half.  Luckily when I got off the clock Caleb was waiting for me; he had walked over to the store to see me before I went to sleep.

To top it all off I lost my nice lip gloss somewhere in the midst of cleaning everything up, and I did not get to take a final break because of all the craziness.  In fact, had I taken my break, I would have missed the accident entirely.  Huh.

Congratulations if you made it to the end of my rampage.  Sorry 'bout that.  I really wanted to vent, and to write this down in my journal would have taken much too long.

I am really tired right now, and tired especially of where I work.  I interviewed at a new place this week.  I don't know how well the interview went, but I think that if I get the job, I will be done here within a month.  I am so ready for that day.

I Need More Friends

Seriously, how did I miss this?  This is only 20 minutes from my house, but where was my invite?!

This is what some crazy kids did last year around the same spot (just 10 minutes further out):

Catch-Up

So I've been MIA for a bit on my blog here, I guess.  I went on my trip to the D.R. and came back, it's been almost a month.  I'm getting married in less than 3 weeks!  I've been trying to finish planning everything, and I've also been trying to get a better (2nd) job on top of everything else.  Just went through the first part of an interview this morning.  Crossing my fingers it works out....

Here we have Kari.  I mustache you a question.....

Dad's first pair of reading glasses.

At the Colonial Zone, in Diego Colon's castle (Christopher Columbus(or Cristobal Colon)'s son).

At the cathedral - hey Laura, this guy is still waiting.....

My yummy Pasion de Caribe drink.

At the church camp in the countryside in Bonao.

Our most attractive picture yet - at Juan Dolio beach.

At Kari and Kayli's invitationals.  This is a competition against anyone on the island who wants to come play.  Kayli is the one who is half a body taller than everyone.

After Caleb went home, here my mom and I are with some neighbors going to the beach at Juan Dolio.  Unfortunately we ran into some rioting which caused a traffic jam on the freeway.  Here we are turning around to get off the freeway.

Juan Dolio again.

I found my first cockroach in the girls' room with my luggage.  Dad came to my rescue thank goodness.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.  Kari sitting pensively with her brownie.

Have a fabulous week!
